PlayTrova

Snap Duel★ Original

A new rule every round — "find the cat", "lives in water", "roll a 6", "correct sum" — and a stream of pictures. Be the first to tap your zone when the picture matches. Tap a wrong one and you're frozen for the round!

How to play Snap Duel

  1. Each player gets a tap zone in their own colour. Two players sit at opposite ends; with three or four, everyone takes a corner or side.
  2. A round starts by showing a new rule with a picture, like ⭐ "Find the star", 🐰🥕 "Animal's food" or 🧩 "Fits the hole".
  3. Pictures then flash up one after another. Most don't match the rule — wait for the one that does.
  4. The first player to tap their zone while a matching picture is showing wins the point.
  5. Tap on a picture that doesn't match and you're frozen ❄️ until the next rule. First to 5 points wins.

Strategy tips

  • Say the rule out loud in your head ("cat, cat, cat") so you don't tap on a dog by mistake.
  • Read the rule card every round: "Same colours" and "Different colours" look alike but mean the opposite!
  • Watch for near misses: a 6 or an 8 on "Find the 7", a hen on "Baby chick", a zebra on "Farm animal".
  • On "Word = colour", ignore what the word says and look at the ink colour. It's trickier than it sounds!
  • Being frozen is worse than being a little slow — a careful tap beats a wild one.

Three ways to play

Solo: 60-second streak — a fresh challenge every day, the same for everyone. vs Computer: four characters from Rookie Robo (easy) to Grandmaster Owl (expert); beat each one to earn its star. vs Friend: share one screen (up to 4 players) — perfect on a tablet.

Variants

vs Friend: 2, 3 or 4 players on one screen, each zone turned to face its player. vs Computer: race four characters, from sleepy Rookie Robo to sharp-eyed Grandmaster Owl. Solo: a daily 60-second streak where the rule changes every few seconds and everyone gets the same pictures — score +1 for a right tap and −1 for a wrong one.

About Snap Duel

Snap Duel is a PlayTrova original, inspired by fast "spot it and slap it" party and card games where everyone races to react first. We turned the idea into 46 picture rules that even 6-year-olds can read at a glance — colours and shapes, numbers and dice, counting, animals, food, faces, letters, arrows, clocks and everyday things — while still keeping grown-ups on their toes. It's a playful way to practise attention, quick reactions and self-control.

FAQ

How many people can play Snap Duel?

Two to four on one phone or tablet, or one player against the computer or the daily 60-second challenge.

How many rules are there?

46, from easy ones like "Find the cat", "High five" and "Rainy day" to brain-teasers like "Correct sum" (is 2 + 3 = 5 right?), "Same letter" (A and a) and "Half past". Within a match, no rule comes back until all 46 have had a turn.

Is it good for young children?

Yes. Every rule is a picture plus two or three words, matches start with the easiest rules, and Rookie Robo is slow on purpose. Grown-ups will find Grandmaster Owl much quicker.

What happens if I tap at the wrong time?

Tapping a picture that doesn't match freezes you until the next rule, so the others get a free chance. Tapping the blank gap between pictures does nothing.

Can I play with a keyboard?

Yes. Against the computer, press Space. With two players, player 1 uses F or Space and player 2 uses J or Enter. With more players, use F, J, Q and P.
